Making your own microscope opens up the world around you.
Constructing your own microscope enables you to inspect the world around you. With your own microscope you can see objects up close and personal, and learn what the minuscule structures that make up the world really look like. The stage of the microscope is a relatively simple part of the device, as it is only a platform to hold the slide and allows light to shine through the bottom to illuminate the specimen.

Things You'll Need

  • Wooden block
  • Pencil
  • Drill
  • Saw
    • 1
Place the wooden block underneath the body tube -- the shaft that holds the eyepiece and the magnifying element.
    • 2
Mark a circle around where the body tube meets the wooden block.
    • 3
Drill through the circle. Don't worry about complete accuracy, just try and cut out all of the material inside the area you marked.
    • 4
Compare the hole with the body tube of the microscope. The purpose of the stage is to hold the slide and allow light to pass through, so if the hole is clear of any hanging pieces of wood and is about as big as the body tube, the stage is complete.
