A1C test is a simple blood test . You can eat and drink normally before the test .

When using the A1C test for diagnosing diabetes , and A1C level of 6.5 percent or higher on two separate tests indicates you have diabetes . The result is between 5.7 and 6.4 percent prediabetes , which indicates a high risk of developing diabetes .
For most people who have previously diagnosed diabetes , A1C level of 7 percent or less is the goal of the joint treatment . Can be chosen higher targets in some individuals .
